Who is with you? I am! Have already moved my cash to a credit union and closed my accounts at a bank that took government money. The customer rep asked why I was closing my account. I told her that they were stealing from the taxpayer. I dont think she understood...:(

Local family restaurants excluded I have already done this a year now, so no plans to stop. All my company profits will be for business investments. edit: wine is an essential too right? In France at least. :-) Last modified:

I'm with you, have already been doing this, and encouraging others, for more than a year now. Our local credit union worships us. This is also why I started NeighborHive (still in development, so I'm not pumping). The more tools we have to encourage local consumption, and the underground economy (bartering, local currencies) the better. ---------- To those that give the thieves the keys to their home... - RATM

Gen wrote..Look, we can rant and rave about market manipulation and government-sponsored games. We can petition the SEC, the FBI and Congress. We can demand that they stop it all we want. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Count me in. Karl, we've already seen some of this from Joe Sixpack, not because he's heard your message and wants to see government change, but because he's on a short leash in his personal budget. * His credit card interest rates have risen substantially and larger payments are now being required, doubly squeezing his "disposable income". * Food costs have risen substantially in the last year or two, thanks to the spike in commodity prices. These prices still haven't returned to levels from three plus years ago. Whack another $50-$150 out of Joe's disposable income as he needs to feed his family. * Joe's hours (and maybe his wife) have been cut or he's taken a reduction in pay from the company in an effort to be a team player to save his job. (This is me, by the way.) Ouch. Mr. & Mrs. Joe are glad they haven't been layed off like the Jones' next door though. * Gas is twice or three times what it was in 2006 when we thought paying $1.50/gallon was "expensive". Joe and his wife still have to get to work. More money out of the family budget. * Utilities are skyrocketing. Our water where I live is in the process of getting another 40% increase in addition to the 50ish% increase at the end of last year. Basically, it's approaching twice what it was last year. Electricity rates have risen. Cable TV rates have gone up. More money out of the family spending plan. * Taxes. OMG. Property taxes have gone up. Taxes on alcohol and tobacco have gone up. Cities and other government agencies are hiking "fees" and taxes on utilities and sales taxes (ours goes up 1% on July 1 - tomorrow!). Hell, the local bus service hiked their component of my property taxes by 50% last year, taking out MORE in my taxes than my local municipal government so they can send MORE empty buses around to tear up the streets (you see a problem there? I do!). So Karl, your plan has beauty. I suspect MILLIONS of Americans are already participating, wanting more transparency, accountability and less bailouts and backstops from government and these banksters. Americans just don't have ANY extra money right now in general. And any IDIOT who says the recession is over isn't worth the bullet to put down. John Last modified:

I'm with you Karl - but I'm afraid mrsmortgagedude might not be. If I climb aboard your wagon I'm afraid legal fees might be an essential purchase.

Might I also suggest a more drastic action we might all take later. Cash advance your Chase mastercard to the limit and then tell em to **** off. Then negotiate with them for half payment. There you go - you got your money back from them. I'm not there yet but the day is drawing nearer. ---------- "These are interesting times. suffering in silence would not be as effective as advertising a shame factor. does anyone here work in Dearborn as an advertising agent? remember "keep america rolling" from government motors? let's ***** the concept. $500 bucks off your negotiated price if you say "Keep America Capitalist, buy a Ford". That ad campaign would get PLENTY of free publicity. ---------- It'll get worse. Just wait.

I already started doing all of this starting last February and will continue to do so. I might edit up your list of what I want done and send it to my Senators and Reps & maybe even to my chamber of commerce and opinion to my local paper.

I am with you as well. Karl - are you okay with this being posted online in other places with link/source back here? Normally I just give a link and have folks read for themselves. However, I think this is too important to depend on people clicking on a link to read.

Found a credit union locally, looking to open account later on today or tomorrow, I just don't enjoy the thought of switching all my electronic payments over, I'm sure I'll miss a few.. I've cut spending down to the bone over the last 2-3 years (after having learned harsh lessons in the tech crash, still paying that off :/) and don't anticipate much in the way of new spends except for repairs or previously-committed trips like Lebowskifest.. And who knows, if I get canned I can declare BK, become another statistic, start collecting unemployment (which I've been paying into all this time), and live off cash for awhile.. So I can't buy a house in 7 years, at least I have great references from landlords going back to at least 2001.. At least, while unemployed last time, I learned to cook.. ---------- It appears that the yard wolves has grown up. Are we finally finished with the colds dead winters?

Been doing such for the past year, but unless KD can get more than the few hundred or thousand of this forum on board ..... Suppose he could be the catalyst to enlist the likes Limbaugh etc on the radio, Beck and similar on cable, and whomever else influential with an audiences. Even get a few monied people to do radio/tv spots to promote and make national action campaigns (national delay paying your mortgage for X months, whatever). Draw up a simple non-action plan, call it 'I Quit' or such, something mailable, t-shirtable, bumperstickerable. Wear the t-shirt (or write magic marker on your own shirt) every Monday. Sticker on every ATM. 'I Quit' business type cards you hand out to everyone you encounter in your daily lives. glennb6

I too have done some of this, but can and will do more. So, yes I am with you. BTW - CUs rock - I wish they had business accounts. I wonder though, in light of "Tragedy of the Commons" how many have to join in to really have an effect? And how would we know? I like positive feedback and yes I can be a short term gratification junkie so while I'd really prefer to punch BB and TG in the nose so I could see blood now... Pete Last modified:
